Partnership Launched to Digitally Transform Rwanda’s Tourism Sector

Kigali, Friday, October 4, 2024 — A transformative chapter has begun for Rwanda’s tourism industry as the Rwanda Chamber of Tourism (RCOT) and the Rwanda Internet Community and Technology Alliance (RICTA) officially launched a strategic partnership to accelerate the sector’s digital evolution.

During a landmark signing ceremony held at RCOT’s offices in Kigali, Mr. Yves Ngenzi, Director General of RCOT, and Mrs. Ingabire Grace, CEO of RICTA, formalized their collaboration through a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership is set to revolutionize how tourism businesses across Rwanda engage with the global market, enhancing their online presence and digital capabilities.

Empowering Tourism Through Digital Innovation

The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework designed to equip RCOT members with vital digital tools and skills. Key initiatives include:

  • Integration of the .RW Domain: Encouraging tourism businesses under RCOT to adopt Rwanda’s national domain, boosting their local identity and online credibility.
  • Capacity-Building Workshops: Providing specialized training in digital marketing, cybersecurity, website management, and other critical areas to enhance competitiveness.

Driving Growth Through Digital Platforms

“Tourism today is increasingly driven by digital platforms. This partnership with RICTA will help our members enhance their visibility, expand their reach, and ultimately attract more visitors both locally and internationally,” stated Mr. Ngenzi during the ceremony.

Mrs. Ingabire Grace highlighted RICTA’s commitment to the initiative: “Our goal is to ensure that every player in the tourism sector—whether a small tour operator or a large hotel chain—can compete in today’s digital economy. By equipping them with the necessary digital skills, we are giving them the tools to thrive.”

A Vision for Sustainable Digital Growth

Beyond technical support, the partnership aims to foster a culture of digital literacy within Rwanda’s tourism sector. Educational programs will emphasize the importance of digital transformation, enabling businesses to harness technology for growth and sustainability.

The agreement, set for an initial term of three years with potential for renewal, is expected to deliver long-term benefits for Rwanda’s entire tourism ecosystem. By increasing online visibility and improving communication channels, the collaboration between RCOT and RICTA is poised to redefine how Rwanda’s tourism sector operates in the digital age.

The Future is Digital

As Rwanda continues to position itself as a premier tourist destination, the need for robust digital strategies becomes ever more critical. Today’s MoU marks not just the beginning of a partnership but a significant step toward securing Rwanda’s place in the global digital tourism landscape.
